MaxCam Features - Image review and metadata

MaxCam for iPhone records a wealth of metadata with each photo. The available data includes infos about the camera such as focal length or aperture, the iPhone model that was used for taking the shot and of course date and time of day when the photo was taken. In addition, GPS location data (longitude, latitude and altitude) are added to the Exif metadata. All this data can be examined in the integrated photo review of MaxCam

As always with MaxCam everything is readily available; no need to dig into menus, preferences or slide toolbars in and out. Tap the "Thumbnail" button in the shutter bar at the bottom (arrow, the orange background in the screenshots is only for illustration, it's not displayed in the app) to open the photo review:

In the review, select the photo you are interested in. You will then be presented with a screen that shows the photo and an extensive list of all available metadata:

Tip: The thumbnail of the photo can be zoomed and dragged with the usual pinch and drag gestures.

Note the icons directly below the photo: They show the memory size of the image and the format. Here we have a photo in HEIF format (extension .heic) with a size of 2.2 megabytes.

The first section of the list shows the most relevant data:

  • Focal length
  • Exposure mode
  • Aperture (or F stop)
  • Shutter speed
  • ISO Sensitivity
  • Flash settings
  • Date and time
  • Resolution

Scrolling down, the list displays the iPhone model, lens details and the iOS version:

Finally there's the recorded GPS data. The screen shows latitude, longitude and altitude. MaxCam uses reverse geo location lookup to determine the exact location down to street level and loads a live map:

Tap the "Back"-button once to go back to album, once more to go back to the camera live image.
